For all the elements that don’t mesh naturally, Admiral still manages to be intermittently engaging and fitfully exciting.

This movie got great actors who lived their roles. Some characters were wooden but the mostly ones were believable. Frank lammars played very well as the Admiral Michiel de Ruyter and you are sad when he is dying. There are some scenes which show the civilization from this period. And these are disgusting because of the realistic props they used. When the peoples slaughtered de brothers de Witt it's very realistic showed and it can let you feel nausea. But it's a very good movie.

With loving shots of booming, towering ships so dominant, and decades squeezed into what feels like a week of action, there's barely enough time to develop De Ruyter as a character in his own movie, or even successfully explain his war strategies.
