《歌利亞》2016

Thanks to Thornton’s consistent performance and the addition of heavy hitters like J.K. Simmons and Bruce Dern, it’s more than worth your while.

Very poor. Some people love it, okay, I'm a bit sad that people would think it's good but that's their call. It tends to lend the thought that everything else on tv is terrible and this just appears to be good by comparison. 1- The acting is a mixed bag. At best it's okay and sometimes it is bad, especially from the lead. 2- The script writing is okay in season 1. In season 2 it is weird. It's like they lose all sense of coherence so just start throwing random shock ideas in. Nothing hangs together, it's disjointed and laughably silly. 3- The casting is entirely stupid. The main character Billy McBride, is supposed to be a clever and cunning, but honest and upright lawyer. He is supposed to be apx 55 years old and handsome. He is supposed to be cool, he is supposed to be a together albeit functional alcoholic. He is played by a nearly 70 year old man who acts like your grandad using words that don't work in his mouth. He is a skinny, dweeby guy who acts tough at certain moments and it does not make any kind of sense. Speaking of that, none of the villains are convincing. Guy with hook hand is a dweeby fop. Not intimidating at all. There's random stuff that makes no sense behind the characters and it's dumb. Billy's daughter is supposed to be 17/18 years old but in reality is about 30. It's very noticeable and it's another really bad choice. This may not be that bad if the lead character was actually the late 60s the actor is. THAT would make some kind of sense. 4- the court scenes are not clever. They don't tie together well at all and the 'killer' court speeches are really poor. In fact they're very weak. I was left going 'is that it?' If I was on a jury and heard any of Billy's speeches, I'd just laugh. Entirely unconvincing and really weak. 5- The pervasive wokeness steals from some of the few moments that are slightly good. I turned to my wife after watching episode two and said "episode four, the GLBTI nonsense will smack us in the face..." Guess what... I hate being right. More importantly, it is just there to be there for wokeness, IT MADE NO FLIPPING SENSE!!! 6- The music does not really provide atmosphere and is at times, just annoying. In short, it is a poorly written, averagely acted, badly cast, mess. I have stopped watching and will consign it to the Amazon bin. I am really astonished by the garbage that exists and then people like it. It's like getting dressed up to go out for dinner and then sliding into McDonalds to yum down a couple of plastic burgers that have been spat in.

In “Fargo,” Thornton’s character was pure evil, but in Goliath he's just flawed--despicable at times, but with a good heart that shows often as he pursues justice against his old law firm and partner. This one’s quite bingeworthy.
