The supernatural element here is snicker-worthy scary. But where “The Boroughs” sizzles is in its May-December romance between Renee — played with such appeal and zest by Davis — and helpful new security guard Paz (San Francisco native and dreamboat Carlos Miranda). Their interplay sparks the kind of chemistry most romantic comedies beg for and gives Miranda a part that will melt hearts and turn him into a breakout star.
It is, obviously, a fine cast and any fears (deriving from the presence of the Duffer brothers, famed for Stranger Things, as producers) that some of the best actors in the business are about to be wasted on hokum are soon laid aside by an intelligent, witty script and a plot that nods to all the most entertaining monster tropes without being slavishly devoted to them.
It’s The Goonies for senior citizens, full of warmth and never taking itself too seriously.
The series is pretty terrific.
Overall, it’s a fun ride with just enough emotional weight given to it by an excellent ensemble.

Part Thursday Murder Club, part Stranger Things, The Boroughs may not sweep the board at the Emmys but it is an unexpectedly entertaining mix of adventure and wonder, drama and humour.
Never as intense as Stranger Things, but also never as surprising, The Boroughs charms while plucking the heartstrings as its characters, especially Sam, contend with grief, loss, and regret while displaying admirable resilience and a timeless respect for Bruce Springsteen.
“The Boroughs” may feel like “Stranger Things” meets “Coccoon,” but that oversimplification is a disservice to what viewers get here. Even in moments that are shaggier than the 1960s carpets in their homes, the experience of this cast matters in carrying multiple genres at once.
The creators perfectly ape early Spielberg movies to deliver an adventurous sci-fi tale that pays homage to famous movies of the past. The first half of the series is much better than the latter half, which sadly limps into a cliche ending. It was still great to see so many talented actors who've been underutilized as of late.
Above average sci fi mystery/action/dramedy. The cast, music and production budget are a highlight with some reasonably good writing and direction to keep the story moving along. Pacing is decent although I'm certain the plot could've survived intact and still shaved a few episodes from the overall runtime. In terms of plot/themes, there are many, much better examples of how to do this kind of show but if sci-fi is your thang or you just happen to like some of the cast this will very likely entertain you. It most reminded me of cocoon.
This was a fun show. Good acting (Bill Pullman didn't last long) fun premise, and the progress of the show worked to an entertaining end. There's enough for everyone here. We'd rate this: "by all means make some popcorn and watch it to have an enjoyable time."
It's refreshing to watch a TV series with an all-senior main cast, but the greatest mistake of 'The Boroughs' is trying so hard to be the next 'Stranger Things.' The premise is interesting, but it slowly gets into generic and predictable territory.
The Boroughs: Jubilación rebelde starts from a very good idea: taking the shape of a supernatural coming-of-age adventure, with mystery, monsters, strange neighbours and an apparently perfect community, and moving it to a group of retirees who are not ready to sit quietly and wait for the end. That alone gives the series something different. It does not reinvent the genre, of course, but it shifts the point of view, and that shift works very **** show is entertaining, easy to watch and never feels heavy. It has a pleasant adventure tone, a bit of mystery, a bit of science fiction, some comedy and a rather lovely melancholy about ageing, loss and the desire to keep living when others have already placed you in the “end of the road” box. Its strongest idea is exactly that: it treats older characters not as charming side figures, but as real **** cast helps a lot. Alfred Molina, Geena Davis, Alfre Woodard, Clarke Peters and Denis O’Hare give the series a special warmth. Even when the story is not particularly surprising, you want to stay with them. There is chemistry, tenderness and several moments where the show works better because of its characters than because of the mystery itself.That said, The Boroughs is not quite the great series it could have been. At times, it feels as if it has a brilliant premise but does not always know how to make the most of it. Some side plots carry too much weight, the development can be uneven and the supernatural side is not always as strong as the initial idea. Even so, it keeps your attention and preserves a very enjoyable **** best thing is that it is not about “old people doing funny things”. It is about older people facing fear again, wanting to belong, dealing with grief and discovering the possibility of one last adventure. And when the series finds that balance, it works. There is a touch of Spielberg, a little of The Goonies, a little of Cocoon and, of course, something of that ensemble mystery formula Netflix has used so often. But here the change of age gives it a personality of its **** is not perfect, nor especially deep, nor always as moving as it wants to be. But it has charm, enough rhythm and an original idea that keeps it going. It is refreshing to see a fantasy series that understands adventure does not belong only to teenagers. Sometimes it can also begin when everyone thinks everything is already over.

This is nothing more than a poorly written show full of caricatures and cliches'. It is so bad I found it to be offensive. And it isn't so bad in a fun or entertaining way. Nothing original - not an original thought. Pure formula which in itself can be ok but in this case it makes your eyes hurt. Not sure what they are trying for in this 'senior' community but it offends... it is what a bunch of 30 or 40 year olds must think of an older generation and it is offensive
A great first two episodes, bringing a mystery and a cast filled with joy for their characters. Although the great acting never stops, the script and mystery falls short from episode 3 and onwards. Predictable and riddled with plot holes, the end did not feel like a proper send off to the characters which all the actors deserved. Beautiful visuals, beautifully shot, and amazing camera work, shows the great potential the show would have had if the writers didn't feel rushed to conclude/contain the show with only 8 episodes. All in all, I recommend giving it a watch for the amazing acting, but be aware that the writing falls short fast.
I don’t understand the positivity of most of the reviewers… The comparison with Stranger Things is striking. That series was childish. It should be because the actors were children. Now on the Boroughs the same kind of behaviour and dialogues can be seen. This time by seniors. Although the plot is ok, the way the script and roles are created they must have been helped by a free to get AI… What a shame!!!
It's bad. Episodes 1-4 aren't great, but watchable. Episode 5 might be the worst-written piece of garbage I have ever seen. Made me stop watching the series.

Clean, cinematic, and immersive enough to make it feel bigger than a typical streaming show. Final Verdict: Smart, atmospheric, and dangerously addictive. Netflix at its absolute best. Cinema wins. Mediocrity loses.
Ever since Stranger Things ended I've been following everything that the Duffer Brothers have a hand in. This series is really great and absolutely worth watching. The setting and storyline are on point. Characters are interesting and easy to connect to. The fact that all of main characters are seniors is a vibe I don't recall experiencing in recent memory but it works really well. I was surprised by how many crazy things they kept dropping onto us that begged for an explanation and kept you guessing.
Brilliant, hope it continues to enthral :) love it. Great cast, great story.
