every.film is an open reference database for film and television. Nearly everything we publish is information about media — titles, credits, release details, artwork — rather than about the people who use this site. This page explains the limited personal information we do handle when you browse the site, call the API, or sign in to contribute, and what control you have over it.
What We Collect
Account information
You can read every.film, and query the read-only API, without any account. An account is only needed to write — to edit metadata, rate, mark, or comment. When you sign in through our own login service at auth.every.film, we keep:
- the username you chose, which is displayed publicly beside your contributions;
- your email address, used to sign you in and to reach you about your account;
- a record of your activity — edits and other contributions, ratings, marks, and comments.
Contributions are public
Contributions are the point of a community-maintained database, and they are public by design: edits and comments appear on the site under your username, and ratings feed the aggregate scores shown on media pages. Do not put anything into a contribution that you would not want published.
Server logs and cookies
Our servers keep ordinary access logs — IP address, requested URL, time, and browser identifier — used to keep the service secure and to diagnose problems. That is the full extent of our measurement: we run no analytics product, show no advertising, and embed no third-party trackers. The only cookies in use are:
- a session cookie, which keeps you signed in;
- a language cookie, which remembers your interface language;
- cookies set by Cloudflare, the network layer in front of the site, for security and traffic management.
How We Use Information
We use this information for a handful of purposes, all of them about operating the service:
- running the site and API, including keeping your session alive;
- attributing your contributions publicly, as the open license they carry requires;
- moderation — reviewing submissions in our review queue and dealing with spam, vandalism, and other abuse;
- replying when you write to us;
- meeting legal obligations, should any apply.
When Information Is Shared
We do not sell personal information, and we pass none of it to advertisers or data brokers. It leaves our systems in only three situations:
- Public attribution — your username travels with your public contributions, including when the metadata is reused elsewhere under its open license.
- Infrastructure — Cloudflare provides our CDN, DNS, security filtering, and email routing; Google Cloud provides hosting and image storage. Each necessarily processes data such as IP addresses and stored content, solely to deliver those services to us.
- Legal requirements — we may disclose information where the law compels it, or where it is genuinely necessary to protect the service or the people who use it.
Retention and Deletion
Account details are kept for as long as the account exists. Server logs are kept only for a short operational window and are then discarded.
You may delete your account at any time by asking us. Deletion removes your email address and your private records — your marks, and your individual ratings (aggregate scores are then recalculated without them). Published edits and comments work differently: they were released under CC-BY-SA 4.0 — an irrevocable public license — and remain part of the shared record. What we will do, on request, is de-attribute them on every.film: remove your username from them. Copies of the data already redistributed by others under the open license may retain the earlier attribution.
Your Choices and Rights
You can ask us, at any time, what information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask for your account to be deleted. Send such requests to the contact address below; every.film is a small, independently run service, so a person — not a ticketing system — will read and answer them. We may need to confirm that a request really comes from the account holder before acting on it. We make no claim to any particular regulatory certification; what we commit to is handling these requests in good faith. These requests are not limited to account holders: if you are a person described in our catalogue — in cast or crew credits, for example — you may use the same address to ask for your entry to be corrected or removed.
Children
every.film is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has opened an account, tell us and we will remove it.
Changes and Contact
As the service evolves, this policy will occasionally be revised. The current version always lives at this address, and any change that meaningfully affects how personal information is handled will be flagged noticeably on the site rather than slipped in quietly.
