Inherent Vice is a film about a stoner which itself seems stoned. This is just one small part of what makes it distinctive.

品钦的“性本恶”不仅是一个解构主义的黑色小说，更是与1970s——美国的后“60年代状态”相连，就像在所有线索中间挥之不去的种族平权运动，嬉皮士以及冷战(反共)阴影。 而PTA则在处理品钦最为特色的如占星等比喻之中，却只能通过画外叙述，这是一种颇为保守的处理，虽处于Neo-Neo Noir的年代，却只能是一部信息量狂轰滥炸的经典黑色影片，这也再一次证明了品钦的文字难以真正地“影像化”，否则将仅有表象而流失精髓。 最后一幕，我们回到了传统的美国小镇状态，“这不代表着我们的复合”，也不代表着影片获得了一个Good Ending。
