Though it takes too long to get into the swing of things, Sting delivers faint echoes of the B-movie classic it wants to be, offering a memorable foe in a giant, bloodthirsty spider.

Like E.T. gone wrong, director Kiah Roache-Turner’s underdeveloped but briskly suspenseful, suggestive arachno-shocker sees a kid with family issues find solace in alien company. Only this spidery E.T. will gobble you up before it phones home…

Sting is derivative but fitfully gripping. Crucially, it’s also good fun: with a main protagonist named Charlotte (lolz), there’s definitely a knowingness to proceedings.

It’s pure horror movie fun. Yet the relationships consistently raise the stakes and elevate the film from the “creature feature” label to the kind of thriller that becomes a fan favorite.

Sting is ridiculous. Still, it's a better movie than it needs to be. A dramatic family backstory sets Sting apart from myriad other creature features.

“Sting” isn’t great fun or great really in any sense. But it’s not bad for a giant spider killer thriller B-movie set in snowy New York and shot in Australia.

Sting is a creature feature that tinkers too much with familiar horror/sci-fi concepts but has plenty of heart to make it memorable.

Not at the top of the list, necessarily, but writer and director Kiah Roache-Turner’s film is a solid if unspectacular entry into the eww-gross-spiders category. It’s pretty good on that front. But when it tries to wedge in some version of Meaningful Family Drama, it loses its way a little bit.

Though its characters and story could've benefited from a deeper, more original development, Roache-Turner ultimately knows what audiences are coming to see and delivers that in droves, offering horrific deaths, a tense atmosphere and stylish direction to entertaining effect.

Overthinking Sting is a proper exercise in futility, and shedding such a tendency makes enjoying the adventure easy. It’s a minor little effort, with only a tiny venom, but its bite should do the trick for any genre head with 90 minutes to spare.

I'm not sure how films like this keep being made! It's all been done so many times, and the cgi just inflates the budget rather than increasing the suspense. It's not unwatchable, but I doubt I'd watch it again!

Surprisngly pretty good with not much to go on. Who knew talent could do that huh. They play human emotions allright, but not the arachnophobia. Decent little horror movie

From the beginning, "Sting" is convincing with its setting: the snow-covered apartment block in Brooklyn is staged in an extremely atmospheric way and the setting is also exploited over the course of the film (unlike in "Evil Dead Rise", for example). The effects are convincing, CG spiders and practical corpses/slime/cocoons harmonize well together. The quirky, demented grandmother and her vampire-like sister are great characters for a film like this. The story beats are also right for a classic creature feature. The origin of the spider is also handled in an elegant and nonchalant way and I really liked it. And the fact that Sting doesn't stop at pets and babies made my broken soul **** film's big problem, however, is its main characters, or the family at the center of the action. Classics like "Gremlins", "Arachnophobia", "Critters" or "Tremors" prove that the focus on a family offers the audience emotional support and identification, it increases the terror and offers comic relief. Unfortunately, the daughter, father and mother are completely unsympathetic, so I just didn't care what happened to them. It's just a big mistake to make a pubescent girl the main character and then add a difficult family dynamic to it. It's just annoying. Finally, the ending is too inconsistent and **** you can overlook the singular threat and the annoying characters, you get some solid spider fare with a few nasty little ideas. With different characters and more creepy crawlies, I would definitely be there for "Sting 2".

Comparado com "Infestação" , do mesmo ano, inclusive com muitas semelhanças (cortiço Claustrofóbico, personagens jovens querendo domesticar animal silvestre, uso dos espaços), mais parece um projeto amador. A ambientação tem seus momentos, mas na hora de arregaçar as mangas, causa mais risos involuntários do que medo, basicamente, se apoia no suspense, na trilha, nos gritos e nas narrações dos personagens. Eu até curti a garota, tem personalidade, e gostei também dos variados tipos de coadjuvantes, mesmo que alguns beirem o ridículo. Tecnicamente faltou muito.

I knew nothing about this film when I started watching it. I think the trailer would have ruined it. This is the best spider movie that I’ve ever seen, beating Arachnophobia (1990). Sting does lean much more into the horror than the comedy but the comedy is subtly present nonetheless. The family in the film feel like a real family which is a testament to how well written, cast, acted and directed this film is. The film is charming, well paced and engaging with a great sense of style. I suppose my only two gripes are the opening scene that is not chronological for no real reason and some of the spider CGI is less than perfect but these are both really minor critiques in what is an excellent spider horror with non-distracting comedy.

Please don’t make this into a sequel, I know that the eggs at the end of the movie indicate a Sting 2 but it was absolutely dog, don’t waste your time The most boring, slow and predictable movie that I have ever watched! Strongly don’t recommend.

This movie was straight-up weak—more annoying than scary. Every move was way too easy to call, like you already knew what was coming. They threw in the typical emo girl with daddy issues, making the whole thing painful to sit through. Basic ending, no real plot, generic interactions—it didn’t even feel like a horror flick. Just a waste of time, for real. If you like horror this aint fo u.

The Movie was okay. It has it’s hights and lows. As a Horror Movie Fan,this Movie was okay. Not a new idea but a quiet Interesting implementation.

Although its reckless use of clichés is annoying, Sting is a very enjoyable movie with its content, design, shooting, and especially character designs. A cheesy horror movie.

This movie is a great addition to the horror genre, the ending shows there could be a sequel.

This year's 'Sting' is one of two spider related horror films recently released onto streaming. There's money in those 8 legs!SYNOPSIS: 'After raising an unnervingly talented spider in secret, 12-year-old Charlotte must face the facts about her pet-and fight for her family's survival-when the once-charming creature rapidly transforms into a giant, flesh-eating monster.' 'Sting' is very much modelled on the 80's B list horror creature feature films which used to thrill and terrify me in good measure.This extra terrestrial arachnid tears through the cast of what is a film which feels a bit dated, but is great for some sort of nostalgia value.This film is fine for what it is and plays on the viewers fear of spiders. The problem being I never for a second believed I was seeing a real spider on screen. And that dulls the arachnophobia within me.However, as much as this is a low budget movie, all of the practical and CGI effects look great and very bloody.Camp and silly at times 'Sting' manages to make us care for the principle cast, wallow in their downfall, and eventually, their triumph to survive as a family.Great horror fun!7/10

Decently fun creature feature with a simple and effective one location setting. The lead male performance is pretty bad but the rest are good, and the climax kind of falls flat.

The movie was overall a breath of fresh air from the horror movies I’ve seen, bringing back practical effects and making good use of its small setting and cast. The only negative I had was how infuriatingly long it took for the protagonist to grow on me. Wish there was more of the autistic mad scientist.
