A Journey to the Dark Heart of Hollywood
Movie star Charlie Castle draws the ire of Hollywood producer Stanley Hoff when he refuses to sign a new seven-year contract. Castle is sick of the low quality of the studio's films and wants to start a new life. While his estranged wife supports him in the decision, Castle's talent agent urges him to reconsider. When Castle continues to be uncooperative, Hoff resorts to blackmail in order to get his way.

独立制作联艺发行+改编自写了《成功的滋味》的Clifford Odets的戏剧，秒懂，必是臭骂吃人好莱坞制片厂明星制etc。看到开头太太和主角吵续约那段拿来代休斯/大屁股也就一秒钟的事（虽然这剧49年的大屁股离开RKO是53以后了但片厂老板earpiece明显借鉴的休斯），浴袍那段太涩了……Stanley一角虽然缝了好几个人但这片最后还是惹毛了Harry Cohn导致Aldrich没戏拍远走欧洲。看得出Palance很努力但演主角力有未逮且缺男星光环（5-10年后让白兰度或纽曼演会合适很多）。配角几乎都比他好：Winters有场戏演法超像Tommy Udo；Hank的演员不认识，象征正直但很男鬼超抢戏……Corey老阴比舒适区稳定发挥一贯爱看。Steiger色厉内荏不是我菜。结局好评！7.5
放在现在还准的“资本扼杀大戏”，配角演得还不错，主角一个孱弱最后勇敢的形象本来就不好演，加上这个外形，看得我一言难尽。
