The Unbreakable Boy (2025)

The Unbreakable Boy will satisfy the terminally vanilla moviegoers, but the rest will see right through its game.

Mainly the story, set in Oklahoma, dispenses its lessons in gratitude, self-forgiveness and sobriety with straightforward sincerity. Sometimes that works, and sometimes it lands with a thud.

The movie is a very sincere and good-hearted adaptation, but it loses focus by trying to include too many elements of the real-life story.

The strength this film exists to celebrate is directly contradicted by the weaknesses of its storytelling.

Levi plays Scott as somewhat smarmy and disingenuous — it’s hard to feel for this guy when he seems absolutely clueless about his own kids. Fahy carries the film in her supporting role, an acting imbalance that seems weirdly apt for this story: the supportive, capable wife sidelined in favor of showcasing the inept husband getting himself together and presenting it as meaningful or poignant.

It's a film that largely rests on an edifice of clichés, contrivances, and ungrounded choices, needing greater development to actually land.

10/10 Struggles of life, never give up, it's a great movie solid watch, one day at a time, wholesome. People literally only hate bombed this because Jesus is mentioned one time in the whole movie. Literally got hate bombed for that reason, so don't listen to the score it's a solid 9 or 10 movie about going through life when it's not that easy. Must watch.

This movie is amazing! Jacob Laval gave an Oscar worthy performance. I cried multiple times because it was so heart wrenching. I watch a movie every single day so it’s rare that I see one that touches me in such a way that I’m actually thinking about it later or recommending it to others. This movie is literally the best movie I’ve seen in a long time.

Even as just a regular movie, its pretty rough as its framed around the father struggling to have a special needs child, and has little to even say about the titular boy and his journey. But the fact that its Zachary Levi, a vaccine/autism truther, makes it unbearable in the worst ways.

Looks like a remake of Jack. Seriously, I feel for kids who have these rare diseases, I truly do. What I'd rather see is this kid talking to people on YouTube or in a doc, not this smarmy money grab of a movie.

As a parent of a son with ASD - this movie was very relatable. I'd rate it a 15 if I could! It was reassuring to see that all of our struggles and happy little moments were portrayed in the film. The movie did a great job of showing what an incredible experience it is to parent an autistic child and see their brains work so fast or their deeply empathetic souls. I don't feel that any of it was over the top, exaggerated or predictable. All of the actors did a phenomenal job. One of my favorite parts of the film is that it doesnt portray just he happy side of things, but also balances it by showing the exhausting side of parenting a neurodiverse kid - like when they get fully undressed when going to the bathroom, or needing to move at their pace without trying to force things along, or when a random flip switches and food they love, they suddenly hate. The highs and lows in the film are real life. I know some have been critical of this film, but I firmly believe it is because they can't relate. While I think the religious aspect of the film could have been a little lighter, overall, this film speaks to the lived experience as a family. It's not perfect. It's not a fairytale. It's messy and haphazard and often a struggle. I, for one, embrace the realness.
