It’s practically begging to be the heir to the “Modern Family” throne: earnest, family-friendly, smart.

On the show, family hijinx ensue; out in the audience, it's more like self-lobotomies with machetes.
It’d be easier to buy into the premise if the jokes were fresher, zippier and less worn-out. But like some flailing adults who move home, 9JKL appears to lack ambition.
The pilot doesn’t disappoint. The comedy features a timely premise full of playful political sendups, light social commentary and plenty of sharp, funny millennial-skewing pop-culture references.
If you last the entire pilot, and your head doesn’t hurt, you’re a sturdier viewer than I.
The show gets off to a dreadful non-start. Old pros like Lavin and Gould are given no choice but to play their parts way, way over the top, because their characters have been brushed far too broadly, with jokes that are beyond stale.
[Mark Feuerstein] brings exuberance and a certain likability to the role as a good son who’s still trying to please his parents. But geez, what a grind 9JKL is. You’ll find more originality in the recipe for cream of boiled water soup.
The Mayor’s first outing doesn’t just throw a worthy ensemble together---it assembles them around the makings of something that could be worth their time and talent.
It’s an interesting conceit to follow one character at three points in his life every week and see how things that happen in one era influence another. It also seems like quite a juggling act for the show’s writers. Time will tell how they manage to maintain it on a weekly basis.
The new show is much more a traditional family-focused show, and the humor is accordingly cleaner. Although there’s no question that Sheldon is often the dominant member of the “Big Bang” core, the show is still an ensemble effort. ... Young Sheldon is nicely cast, but it’s even more about the title character, and young Armitage acquits himself well, not to mention he’s cute as a bug. Also notable is Zoe Perry as Sheldon’s mother, Mary.
It's ok, it's family movie, good idea, main character was good, normal story , it is ok , time was good
