Bad Sisters (2022)

The second season exemplifies what Bad Sisters does best: splices the ridiculous joy of life with its bleakest moments. It’s more sombre in tone than the first season, but as fiery, twisted and shocking, which will keep viewers second-guessing throughout.

One of Horgan’s best, Bad Sisters manages to be both a clever murder-mystery and a hilarious farcical comedy, played by an absolutely killer cast.

Bad Sisters is a brilliantly engaging thriller, with lots of laughs and an unpredictable storyline. While murder is never the answer in the real world, here you won’t be able to stop yourself rooting for whoever you have pegged as the murderer.

The sharp, chummy world Horgan creates here would make a terrific binge session. Honestly, if it meant I could spend more time in their warmly murderous clutches, I’d watch the Garvey girls go after the Road Runner next.

It will be of little surprise from a Horgan project that the series’ women are written incredibly well and portrayed with humor and heart—the excellent cast shines in individual scenes and when they are together. But Claes Bang is also phenomenal as a man you not only want to see murdered, you’d like to do it with your own bare hands.

Twists that keep various mysteries alive throughout a 10-episode series (one that probably should’ve run just six or eight) can vary in believability. At one point, the show turns a corner from darkly comic to full-on macabre and nearly goes off the rails. When we get to the finale, it doesn’t come as much of a surprise. And yet, I never stopped having fun.

All the actors playing the Garvey sisters are excellent, and they make the sometimes prickly, but always loving, five-way family rapport endlessly enjoyable to watch.

Bad Sisters is wonderful. It is also superbly constructed, perfectly paced and brilliantly performed, with Horgan on top form as both writer and actor, surrounded by a cast who don’t put a foot wrong.

We love spending time with the Garvey sisters and enjoying the exquisite work by Horgan, et. al., and we marvel at Claes Bang’s ability to play one of the most memorably despicable, love-to-hate-him characters in recent memory. This is one of my favorite series of 2022.

Quibbles aside, the show is a rush of dark wit and fierce familial love.

Loved Sharon Horgan in this and her clan of sisters. Not as funny as I thought it would be and a bit more grizzly at times than expected.However it’s dark comedy and easy to watch for the most part. Didn’t love the romance story but he’s eye candy which made up for it. Loved the Irishness of it as well.

Desde pequeñito mi anime favorito ha sido Death Note, era brutal que teniendo solamente una libreta pudieras escribir en ella a quién le deseas la muerte y se cumpliría. Soy fan de los momentos, historias y finales bonitos pero más lo soy cuando hay maldad, injusticia y sin piedad; es un gran ejemplo de la sociedad de hoy en día, esos tres términos evalúan nuestra existencia (nos la merecemos). Pero siempre quiero encontrar la paz y la felicidad, algo imposible en esta época. Sharon Horgan, creadora e intérprete en la serie, ha llevado a cabo un remake de una serie Belga, Clan (2012). No hace falta más, una historia corta sin necesidad de crear un futuro, es completa. Si hablamos de un asesinato, hablamos de originalidad y e inoportunidad, y en estos 10 capítulos no desaparecen estas dos necesidades. Cada capítulo, las hermanas Garvey intentan matar de una manera sigilosa y precavida pero todas en mal momento. No valen para ello, aunque tienen buenas ideas. Su cuñado es un bicho malo que nunca muere. Digo lo del bien y el mal porque en el caso de las Garvey, quieren matar a John Paul para que una de las hermanas, Grace, pueda tener la vida normal que tenía con ellas antes de estar con él, John Paul no le deja hacer nada, casi no sale de casa, y bueno, ha hecho cosas muy malas a toda la familia pero Grace ignora todo ese calvario. ¿No se da cuenta o no quiere darse cuenta? Puede que eso lo descubramos al final, o puede que no. O quizá no lo dejen claro. Tiene fuerza y entretenimiento, buenas interpretaciones y da curiosidad. Necesita despegar más fuerte en algunos momentos pero no se me hace pesada. Sus personajes son eficaces y previsibles pero bien protagonizados, un guión interesante lo necesito con más poder. Hacer lo que sea para salvar a tu hermana de esa situación sí que tiene mérito. RICARDO VALERO, AGOSTO 2023, ESPAÑA.

Stretched out by a factor of 2 - should be five episodes at most. Modest humor, plot is irritating. More suspense in this ?

Very atypical Sharon Horgan jokes and over the top acting. I’m sorry to say the best actor in it is Claes Bang as the nasty brother in law. The sisters are all infuriating (Bibi particularly is a dreadful actress, even Bono’s daughter has more talent) and the plot is predictable. When you are rooting for the ‘evil’ character, you know the rest are poorly executed!

At least 4 episodes too long. After the first two you'll get the pattern and pretty much guess the ending. A cast of morally bankrupt characters, written by those that know little of civil law and police procedure, or even common sense come to that. Initially **** before half way becoming somewhat of a tiresome chore.

Phenomenal television. Super well written, great acting, very funny and infuriating.

Morally it's a confusing one. It's not my first choice of action vs a non-violent but terrible family member, but it creates funny moments I guess. I wonder if the deconstructionists look at this and flip some of the characters and their sexes and/or races and see if it plays. My guess is no, but that is too deep, too deep. Great acting tho.
