It’s this effortless juggling of tones and stories that keep “Barry” from wearing out its high-concept premise this far into its run.

The third season take a little while to build momentum but that’s intentional. These characters are lost emotionally and disconnected physically for a few episodes, trying to figure out for themselves what the next chapter looks like. It makes sense that the storytelling drifts a bit, but it really locks in around episode 4 and the next two are among the best in the history of the series. ... It’s also just still so funny and smart.

The darkness gets darker, yet “Barry” is sticking to its comedic intent and half-hour format. This is remarkable, given that it plays as intensely and satisfyingly as “Breaking Bad” once did.

The best comedy on not just HBO but all of television (at least while “Atlanta” isn’t on the air). The first three episodes of “Barry” are flat-out brilliant, balancing the show’s dry wit and humor with its increasingly dark edge that sometimes makes it feel more like “Breaking Bad” than a traditional laugher.

While the new episodes maintain the show’s satiric view of self-interested Hollywood types, a poignant theme emerges which represents an evolution for the series. As an introspective Barry takes inventory of his past misdeeds, the show’s storylines cohere around the reflexive lies people tell themselves, and the myriad factors which comprise the masks they present to the world.

Everything about the series is so carefully crafted, though, that even its smallest moments are pure joy (most especially when it riffs on cut-rate movies and TV series in the roles Sally and others get). But there is never a danger of superficiality, even when a recurring theme is how Barry is able to achieve this duel life largely because the people around him are so self-absorbed.

Let me just declare how far over the moon I am about Barry, a funny, violent, gripping and masterfully melancholy half-hour show created by Hader and “Silicon Valley” producer Alec Berg. ... From start to finish, it’s just one hell of a show.

Barry proves that by honing in on a specific narrative with razor sharp focus and excellent craftsmanship, you can stand out. You don’t need a massive budget or a high-concept premise. You just need good storytellers willing to put in the work, and talented performers ready to play.

One of the best new comedies of the last few years. This clever surprise is an eight-episode series that starts strongly and only gets better as its plot becomes more brilliantly complex and its characters are more fully developed. And it’s a wonderful showcase for Bill Hader’s dry sense of humor.

Score: 6.0 I watched this because of how much Conan O'Brien talked it up... but i hated the entire theater plot/characters, the hitman side was kinda fun, but... hen, i didn't hate it but was just meh

I refuse to believe they didn't hire paid reviewers for this. The lead actor is obnoxiously unlikeable. I didn't stick around to complain, I just turned it off after the first few shows, and I have no regrets. If Palm Royale (another terrible show) can be nominated for Emmy awards, I'm sure HBO can manufacture fake hype online and critical acclaim, too. This show flat ****. It's in that rare group of shows where it's so bad you can't watch it because you're embarrassed for the writers, the actors, and directors.

I loved Bill Hader on SNL and in the movies but this is a drama not a comedy show. Not sure why Hollywood keeps pushing all these show as comedy D'UH! they are dramas. I watched around four or five episodes and maybe laugh twice if that. Henry Winkler does a good job as the acting coach. But not being a comedy really turn me off so stop watching.

Barry's fourth season continues to be filled with dark humour, unique cinematography, and a matured narrative style, leaving viewers eagerly anticipating Bill Hader's future feature films.

Started strong, started declining into being unwatchable. Barry slaughtering a building full of armed gangsters withoutbreaking a sweat was it for me. Completely ridiculous.

Season 1 is good... Season 2 is great Season 3 Masterful. Season 4 is great and good. It's a great show over all with some brillinat narrative moves and well considered and interesting action sequences. Sometimes bizzare, sometimes dark, always compelling.

Starts as a very good comedy. Reminds me of a show called Lucifer, where the main character also had a secret that nobody could know about. Unfortunately, just like the mentioned show, after the secret was uncovered the it turned into garbage. I laughed two times during the last season.

Probably my favorite show this year. The first 2 seasons are just comedy gold,and starting season 3 it really started to feel more like a drama, which I really liked. I would definitely recommebd this to anyone.

Barry Berkman's descent from conflicted hitman trying to be an actor instead to outright unhinged murder was so **** fun to watch. Bill Hader is a genius.

I really enjoyed first seasons, but the last 2 were a bit less interesting for me and a bit too weird at times. Especially last one, but still great tv series and entertaining throughout.

The writing is excellent making the story more compelling and gives the characters depth. The cast ensemble gives phenomenal performances especially Bill Hader who does an amazing job as Barry. Overall great series.

Brilliantly written and acted. Bill Hader is a gem in every sense! The characters are wonderfully flesh and bones, complex, and multidimensional. The last season gets darker but it had no where else to go. I highly recommend.

Season 1 is fresh and addictive, it made me laugh every episode. Season 2 is a good addition, barring some moments it has the same shine as season 1. Season 3 is convoluted, has no direction, and many nameless, boring characters. Haven't laughed once during season 3. 8/10 for season 1 and 2.

Barry has proven to be more than just a comedy and knows how to balance it. With only 3 episodes left I can only imagine what is left in store and how this story will be wrapped up

The show has gotten more and more dramatic and dark, and less comedic, but that's due to the way the story has unfolded. It all works, and with this and Succession going off the air, I am in need of some great new series!

Barry is one of the best shows on tv, so sad this is the final season. But it's going out on top, every episode is A+.
