Break Point2023

Break Point's second series has the advantage of two wonderful young gun storylines of its own: the (spoiler alert!) grand slam triumphs of Carlos Alcaraz (Wimbledon) and Coco Gauff (US Open). How it deals with Alexander Zverev, a top player undergoing a domestic violence investigation, is a stark failure, however.

Netflix giving tennis the 'Drive to Survive' treatment. Sure it's curious to look at the private life of the prominent young players right now, but it gets tabloid-like very fast. There's good editing work in here, but the narrative formula already feels generic and cheap. Very addictive view, though.

A tendency towards self-indulgence and a futile fixation on American players results in a serious case of second-season syndrome. Rather than pull out an ace, this sequel ripples the net while the crowd sighs in frustration.
