Frank Herbert's Dune (2000)

The Definitive "Dune" for Book Purists While it lacks the massive budget of recent adaptations, this miniseries is an order of magnitude better because it actually respects the source material. Unlike the modern film, Lady Jessica is portrayed correctly: as a regal, calculating, and stoic Bene Gesserit. The plot follows the book’s timeline faithfully, allowing the tension to build naturally rather than spoiling the surprises for the sake of spectacle. If you want the true story of Dune, with all its intellectual depth and subtlety, skip the movies and watch this instead. It is a masterpiece of storytelling over style.

Начиная смотреть сериал, думал о наиболее подробном изложении оригинала, но при этом вначале не получил даже рассказа общей информации, как в версии 1984 первые 15 минут. Вместо этого я получил не совсем интересные беседы. Актерский состав тут победнее, я бы сказал, что никого тут не знаю, но актёры здесь играют не хуже предыдущей экранизации, а та же Чани — самая лучшая версия.По костюмам тут неоднозначно, там было красиво, но обычно по-земному, скажем так, тут же не по-земному, но не сказал бы, что мне такой подход понравился (но харконненские цвета, всё красное, это было красиво, стильно). Как сериал, этот формат, я считаю, ей подходит, ибо тут политические игрища, а не экшен. Тем самым я узнал очень много чего интересного, интересы и мотивы сторон и т. д., в какой-то степени некоторые персонажи раскрылись для меня (та же принцесса). Путь главного героя, моё почтение, скажем так, и мальчика в мужчину, а потом и вообще в нечто большее (так описали в сериале, так оно и есть). Если первая серия повествует о завязке судьбоносного момента для вселенной «Дюны» и триумфе Харконненов. Вторая — выживая и подготовка к вендетте. А наконец, последняя, самая захватывающая часть — уже вендетта Атрейдесов всем!Конечно, опять же, после просмотра концовки «Дюны 2» Вильнёва в самом конце было мощно с этой священной войной, тут же опять ограничились типа браком, а что он значит? Додумывайте сами, но это лучше, чем в версии 1984 года, там и этого сказано не было.Итог: в каждой экранизации есть свои сильные стороны, и, смотря другую экранизацию, я узнаю что-то новое, а что знал, мне не сказали, но, зная это, я всё понимаю, ибо видел это в предыдущих фильмах. Я считаю, что сериальный формат был удачным решением, затянуто сам не люблю сериалы, из-за этого, но оно того стоило.

Une mini-série décidément très bas de gamme, dont les effets spéciaux bâclés (des effets numériques dignes d’une PS2 en fait !) font vraiment pitié ! d’ailleurs, même le film de Lynch (tellement kitsch) celui de 1984, est nettement au dessus de ce truc-là, y compris avec ses vieux collages fatiguenazes ! Il faut dire que c’est bien peu inspiré et de manière très générale, la direction artistique laisse fortement à désirer. Même les décors font ‘toc’, de même que les costumes et tout le toutime… Les comédiens ont l’air constamment paumé, sont laissés sans direction et ne cessent donc d’être résolument mauvais : c’est une sorte de théâtre filmé définitivement raté !C’est aussi dû à une adaptation qui loupe le coche à chaque fois, la faute à une écriture sans envergure, médiocre et navrante, ne rendant pas hommage, ne tirant pas profit des idées foisonnantes de la saga de Frank Herbert. Il faut dire que les livres sont très difficiles à adapter et même Villeneuve s’y casse les dents (cf Dune Deuxième Partie, très décevant et très woke !). Voilà donc un ratage total qui ne réussit qu’une chose : vous faire dormir !!

A low-budget series that is amazingly faithful to the book. More theatrical, a little cheap and old looking, but good to watch. I was pleasantly surprised.

Yes I have read the books so kind of a fan of the stories about Dune. This show has dated visuals, a low budget look with more than one flat performance. That being said I enjoyed it and got to the end. Watchable, but it was never going to win any awards for anything. It does have nudity, scenes of bloody violence and a bloody decaptiation so a 12 rating seriously wtf!?

Mediocre, boring, average acting, poor visuals, Dune, the best sci-fi novel of all times doesn't deserve this amateurish quality.

This was the Dune that I had yet to see after Lynch's version, the extended version of Lynch's film and Villeneuve's epic. Certainly here the plot got expanded in a better way, and you can see the work and the effort, but despite being a 20-year old miniseries, it looks much older because of its cheap production and its old-fashioned style. It's not really a rarity, far from it, it's just another adaptation of a book that's too complicated to be adapted.
