PLUTO (2023)

Even if Pluto strikes some sci-fi watchers as a bit derivative or self-serious, animation fans should appreciate its designs, fluidity, and invention. This is a great-looking show, and effective testimony for how sometimes fantastical stories are better-served by animation rather than live-action.

Pluto is a masterful character-driven drama about the fallout of war and what it means to be human. The series’ central whodunnit falls a little flat, but it more than makes up for it with impeccable emotional arcs. Although the series took over six years to make, it was worth the wait.

As a whole, Pluto makes for one of the most moving pieces of animation in recent memory. Its reflections on artificial intelligence are bolstered by an underlying empathy for its characters, breathing life into concepts that have been done to death in myriad other tales.

If you're a fan of "Pluto," seeing this story rendered in animation will be worth the wait. If you're a newbie, the mystery will keep you hooked and the character arcs will make you glad you stayed.

This is the best TV show ever, it´s a ten out of ten. Its a revolutionary show. I love Pluto, Gesitch and Ochanomizu. :)

Superb one season series that makes the most of the "antiquated" sci-fi setting. Protagonists have an interesting, nuanced personality and the melancholy plot revolving on "what it means to be human" is engrossing. Beautiful to look at, with some experimental touches here in and there in the way it's animated.

Based on ‘The Greatest Robot on Earth’ story arc from the Astro Boy manga, Pluto follows Europol robot detective Gesicht as he investigates a series of seemingly linked murders of both humans and robots. The pacing is arguably a little slow in places, but the complex characters and philosophies and unexpected plot twists make for an intriguing. Animated or not, this is one of the best murder/mystery series of the year.

Fantastic anime noir that is more human than human. The music, the editing and of course the writing. A show that had my undivided attention, no multi-tasking while watching this one. Watch in original language or english (if that's your native tongue), as the english language was done with thoughfulness as well. I enjoyed Pantheon but this was another level.

Thought-provoking and engaging with unexpected twists. While the investigation into Pluto is quite interesting, the unfolding of this futuristic world and the variety of its facets is the most compelling. Loved the journey from beginning to end.

This show is a masterpiece. The animation is very fitting, but what impressed me most is the story, which had deep philosophical themes, like what it means to be human, or what ot means to be perfect. It's honestly a crime how little netflix promoted this show.

I knew about the manga, but I have never read it, and I knew about its stellar reception. So, I thought, why not check out the anime, especially since it was garnering positive reviews as **** quality turned out to be a pleasant surprise.Pluto is like a kind of police drama that presents a complex scenario that gives an impressive depth to its main characters which is unexpected because they are robots and unexpected because it portrays them in a human way. I can't vouch for how faithful the adaptation is, but I was thoroughly pleased with what I witnessed. The storyline is fantastic, and the animation is truly a marvel. Undoubtedly, this ranks as one of the best series I've come across this year.Whether you're a fan of Astro Boy or not, or even just an anime enthusiast, I'd recommend giving it a shot. I can guarantee it's worth it, 100%.

So profound and moving. A sci-fi anime that will make you cry from the very first episode.

This would be perfect if it was traditionally animated. Alas it's plagued by lazy corner cutting penny pinching budget saving CGI. Mostly cars and buildings, but the fire/weather/special effects are also some of the cheapest lowest effort CGI I've seen in a hot minute. Also some of the animation is just... Not good, but thankfully it's just a few scenes. Story wise it's Pluto, meaning it's great and feels like an Isaac Asimov Robot novel.

Watching this show is a breathe of fresh air in 2023. If you long for the days of late 90's early 2000s anime style with modern quality, you will most likely love this show. It is seriously astonishing! This is one of those shows that I would rewatch with a friend just to talk to them about it.

I regularly watch anime and most of them have a theme that is very predictable. My issues with this series is far from the concept of Good Anime vs Watchable Anime. Good Anime's are the ones that give you something to think about and in many ways this series holds the carrot of WhoDoneIt type of story telling behind a character drama that follows robots as they evolve into more human like. This deep Anime talks about Humanity and the tools we use to destroy each other and the Machines are treated with respect and care in a cruel world full of humans. Watchable Anime are the ones that are cliff hanger bait where you wanna see what happens next, much to the Streaming shows that go from one episode to another. The stories on their own are compelling, but the overall story is very forgettable to a point when you meet the killer you don't realize their importance the shadow of the main cast of characters who have good arcs on their own. The individual plots are great, but the culmination of story telling is pretty forgettable and you cannot rewatch this show because of the WhoDoneIt angle which is something, in my opinion, makes it hard to rewatch

Netflix slowly become a juggernaut in both TV and Anime, simply by going for the fences every now and then. Pluto is the best 'serious' anime sci-fi since Mamoru Oshii's Ghost in the Shell. Moreso, it is literally a reimagining of beloved classic Astro-Boy aka ATOM but done in a realistic manner. Absolutelly brilliant and a must watch for anime fans everywhere.

Never expected that the anime adaptation of this masterpiece of a manga will be able to outshine its source material. Stellar VA, swelling BGM and an exceptionally taut production makes this a worthwhile watch for everyone.

Another Naoki Urasawa masterpiece, this time adapted by Maruyama, another master of his craft. Absolutely essential watch for anyone interested in animation or philanthropy.

This show was such a kick! Impeccable art, brilliant character building, philosophical questions handled with finesse and center to the story. This is an instant classic.
