The Colbert Report (2005)

Not only does Colbert maintain his persona without skipping a beat throughout the entire show, but he's got great comic timing, the show's writers are brilliant, and the whole thing is pure foolish, bizarre, idiotic fun at Bill O'Reilly's expense.

Mr. Colbert's on-camera persona may not wear well over the long term, but for now at least "The Colbert Report" is a worthy spinoff, an icy-cold beer chaser to the shot of whiskey that is "The Daily Show."

One of Colbert's strengths has always been wordplay, which is in full force on ''The Colbert Report" and gives the show an added level of wit.

It's got a way to go to become a polished program, but made a very solid and affable first impression.

When it is clicking, The Colbert Report is Countdown on mescaline -- occasionally brilliant, occasionally loopy, definitely entertaining.

In the run-up to the show it all sounded a bit hard to get your head around, but in the flesh the show zinged, at least this first week.

The biggest question hanging over "The Colbert Report" is whether the show’s sendup of the pomposity and fear-mongering of cable news blowhards will be as appealing in the long term as "The Daily Show’s" satire of public figures and the news media as a whole.

"The Daily Show" spinoff has gotten off to an impressive start with a topnotch premiere followed by a respectable second outing that underscores just how challenging it will be to sustain this half-hour high-wire act four nights a week.

There is nothing funny or entertaining about this program. Credit for the success of Colbert's previous show goes to it's writers, not this pothetic so called comedian. It's sad to watch him bomb repeatedly, it's predictable. He fails to mask his negativity and low self esteem, it's obviously painful and ucomfortable to watch. Russia indirectly interfering with presidential elections is nothing compared to the blatant trashy propaganda we tolerate morning until night in every form of media, especially network television. The network's intention is to use this program to force it's political bias on the viewers. Colbert is a slimy, lazy snake constantly biting at the ankles of responsible hardworking people in honorable positions, something a TV loser knows nothing about. The nonstop attack on our Commander In Chief in an attempt to sway the voting audience's opinion is sickening. He stoops to an even lower level by trying to defame certain democratic candidates on his show in an attempt to hinder the outcome of the democratic nomination. They invited Joe Biden on the show only to have Colbert slam him over and over again with his under minding disrespect and uncomfortable questions. Even called him sir in a contradicting tone, repeatedly. This idiot in a suit and tie attempting to act hip, slick and cool with hopes of appealing to every generation is the grand finale dud of another long day of a television network's desire to impose it's will on the viewing public audience.
