5 cataloguedSounding like an old married couple, the interplay between the two is, at times, bitingly and laugh-out-loud funny. But it also becomes tedious.
The lack of respect for the U.S. Navy is staggering. From the so-called officers drooling with pathos, "Permission to salute the captain?", to the cheap special effects, it's a disgrace to the Navy and it's sailors. Rhona Mitra and Adam Baldwin carry this show until season 3, then it turns into total garbage.
If this “Battleship” meets “Contagion,” tension plus ick factor, hazmat-suits-for-all! kind of tale is your bag of summer escapism, then by all means climb aboard The Last Ship. It may be all formula and archetypes, but that’s Bay’s bread and butter, and the first two hours pack enough oomph to make you want to see what happens when the Ship finally pulls into port.
